Tips to Reduce Stress

Stress: We all experience it. Work, family, health … there’s no shortage of stressors in our lives. While stress is unavoidable, too much stress can – and should be – avoided; it can wear you down and lead to health issues like insomnia, forgetfulness, headaches, depression and so much more.

Thankfully, there are many different ways that you can fight back against stress and clear your mind. Here are a few tips to help you relax:

  • Stay positive. We have the tendency to play out an infinite amount of scenarios in our head. If something can go wrong, you expect it to. But how often has the worst-case scenario actually happened? That number is probably low. Don’t stress out over something out of your control – instead live in the moment.
  • Get active. Physical activity can distract you from your stressors as well as boost your health. AvMed’s Active&Fit Direct® Program is one way you can get moving and there is no enrollment fee. This program gives you access to a broad network of participating fitness centers and YMCAs for one low monthly cost. • Connect with others. A strong support system can do wonders for managing stress. Connect – and reconnect – with family and friends and try out different activities to meet new people, such as volunteering.
  • Rest up. When we’re stressed, sleep habits can take a hit. You may find yourself having trouble falling asleep or waking up often at night. Spend some device-free time winding down before bed and stick to a steady bedtime. Consider using white noise or ambient sounds to help you relax.
  • Educate yourself. Through AvMed’s WELLfluent™ Living program, you can access e-coaching, online classes and other health improvement tools to tackle stress and other health concerns head-on.
